In fact, I really like the concept of her as a character. I guess the question at the end of all this for me is “Do I hate Monika?” My favourite glitches came from Natsuki though the text box with “FUCKING MONIKAMMMMMMMMM” and when she had a moving human mouth. There’s a strange variety of them too from Natsuki’s neck cracking to the screen being flooded to buttons all saying ‘Just Monika’ to even Yuri’s eyes bleeding. The glitches are amazingly executed because they seem so real, and they don’t come when you expect it. I felt terrible for thinking she was annoying after that.ĪND THEN MONIKA KILLS HER OFF. Sayori ended up becoming my favourite character because the moment we discover she was suffering from depression all this time, a lot of her behaviour began to make sense and we actually see a lot more character depth to what just meets the eye. I guess it was since Natsuki was a little too tsundere and stubborn and Sayori just urked me. I hate to admit this, but Sayori and Natsuki initially annoyed me. However, despite the horror aspect being the highlight of it all, I did enjoy the storyline (as cliche as it was). And how the random pictures and files pop up out of no where.Įspecially the ‘ happy thoughts‘ file. While I was playing the game in Act 2 when everything starts getting really scary, I continuously checked the files as I played through and it honestly baffles me how Sayori’s character can just DISAPPEAR from the files like that. And not just any plain horror horror that reels the actual player into the storyline instead of experiencing it all through the eyes of a character. The true beauty of DDLC is really the horror aspect of it. Also the biggest meme when in her truest form: Buffsuki. I mean, come on, take Natsuki for example. I guess the issue with DDLC is that there are a lot of people who aren’t in the anime style of the game, as well as the cliche anime tropes within each character. Having not knowing the specifics of the game (apart from the ending where Monika literally breaks the 4th wall and controls the files), I decided to play the game myself. Even before Jack or Felix had a play-through. You know, initially I found out about this game through a review in October. So we all know what happens to the poor anime girls in this club apart from Monika. I don’t think there’s even a need to put a disclaimer here since everyone pretty much knows the game by now, but YES, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS and memes. If you have somehow not heard of this internet sensation hacking your files and computers by storm, DDLC (or Doki Doki Literature Club) is basically an anime-style visual novel that looks innocent enough, before you get into the nitty-gritty traumatic side of it. I’m sure by now, everyone is either still traumatised, has not played it, has made a Reddit account solely for DDLC memes or is downright sick of the game. The very first ‘review o’clock’ I decided to do was on none other than Doki Doki Literature Club. We've added a few more moments that we feel deserve their time in the horror spotlight, although, unlike DDLC Plus, we didn't add a music player function. Between the resurgence of popularity that inevitably comes with DLC for well-known media and the general spookiness of the current season, we decided that we could give this article something of an expansion pack, too. Updated October 31, 2021, by Cameron Roy Hall: Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, an expanded and enhanced version of the original game, came out earlier this year. DDLC deals with several dark themes and subjects, including references to self-harm and abuse. Here are some of the scariest moments that you’ll encounter in the game.Ĭontent Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Doki Doki Literature Club's story, as well as descriptions of events that may not be suitable for all ages. It can be easy to be misled, considering how much innocent fanart there is online. If you’ve never played the game before, you should be ready for both extremes, as the shift from pleasant to horrifying can be extremely sudden.
